Description
This 1999 Shelby Series 1 Roadster is powered by a naturally aspirated Oldsmobile Aurora-derived 4.0-liter DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine factory-rated at 320hp, paired with a rear-mounted ZF 6-speed manual transmission. It features a purpose-built aluminum chassis with bonded aluminum honeycomb panels for rigidity and independent double-wishbone suspension with inboard coilover dampers operated by rocker arms. Stopping power is provided by ventilated disc brakes. The carbon-fiber and fiberglass bodywork is finished in Centennial Silver with red racing stripes and complemented by alloy wheels. The exterior features a convertible soft-top and Carroll Shelby's signature on the hood. The interior is upholstered in black and gray leather with carbon-fiber trim and is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, heated side mirrors and a Monsoon audio system. An additional Carroll Shelby signature is located on the carbon-fiber engine cover. Identified as CSX5142, this roadster is No. 142 of 249 built, all designated as 1999 models. The Series 1 was unveiled at the 1997 Los Angeles Auto Show and developed by Carroll Shelby and his team from a clean-sheet design.
