Description
Stock #7224 Long before Toyota introduced the bB in the USA under the Scion brand, they were giving their home market incredible variations of the chassis. This Open Deck is one of roughly 2500 produced, and is easily the most interesting, functional, and quirky iteration of the platform. Exterior Overview Long before Toyota introduced the bB in the USA under the Scion brand, they were giving their home market incredible variations of the chassis. This Open Deck is one of roughly 2500 produced, and is easily the most interesting, functional, and quirky iteration of the platform. Featuring a pass-through rear bulkhead, mini truck bed, and functional roof rails, this bB is fun, functional, and does much more than stand out from regular traffic. Finished in Frost White (068), our 2001 is set off by Kosei wheels, subtle lowering springs, and OEM rainguards. Save for a few paint blemishes, it’s hard to critique the cosmetics, and the 104k miles on the clock are next to nothing on this hatchback’s durable drivetrain. Boasting a few rare factory options, tank-like build quality, and a seamless servicing experience here in the States, no wonder the Open Deck has earned its spot amongst our fleet of Japanese Classics! Interior Overview The interior features a few rare factory options and upgrades, like a front bench seat which was borrowed from a standard bB. The door cards were swapped over in Japan to match, and the upholstery is in good condition throughout the cabin. The rear bench dons its original factory yellow mesh, and the pass-through functionality works like a charm, allowing you to fit elongated items through the rear cargo area. The dash is in good shape and houses dual SRS airbags. To maximize storage capacity, an additional cubby is situated atop the glovebox. Rare illuminated cupholders can deploy from the center stack, and lie adjacent to an upgraded touchscreen audio system. Bluetooth functionality is handy, and functional automatic climate control makes pumping cold A/C or hot heat into the cabin simple. Power windows, locks, and power folding mirrors assist daily use, although the factory remote no longer actuates the keyless entry. The headliner is tidy, and carpets are in good shape. This cabin is comfy, quirky, and cool, although we wanted to note the front seats no longer fold flat like the OD’s standard equipment. Still, that does little to take away from its appeal, and the next owner will still have loads to brag about! Even the owner’s manual is included with the purchase. Mechanical Overview The 1NZ-FE under the hood is a stout little motor. This 1.5l has plenty of pep, and was offered in our stateside Toyotas, making servicing a snap. Ours is fresh off a recent service, and it cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery. A new alternator was installed to keep that charged, and we snaked on all new accessory belts while we were in there. Thermal management is controlled by a new radiator, and we flushed the coolant for good measure. A new engine air filter and four new spark plugs provide a bit of a basic tune up, and with the maintenance performed this tiny trucklet is ready to traverse our US highways and byways. An automatic gearbox puts the power down predictably and is fresh off a fluid exchange service. To refresh the suspension, new rear trailing arm bushings were installed, as were new front lower control arm bushings. The power steering is easy to maneuver, and the ABS brakes make stopping this bB an easy affair. Coupled with new rubber on all four corners, this compact is ripe and ready to be your next beach cruiser, work truck, or weekend showstopper! *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first. CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
