2004 Chevrolet SSR LS 2dr Regular Cab Convertible Rwd SB

Vehicle Description 2004 Chevrolet SSR $32,997 2004 Chevrolet SSR — Purple Exterior, 5.3L Vortec V8, Retractable Hardtop, Full Factory Equipment Why This Car Is Special The 2004 Chevrolet SSR is one of the more unusual vehicles General Motors produced in the modern era — a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive pickup truck with a power-retractable steel hardtop, styled after the hot rod-influenced custom trucks of the late 1940s and early 1950s. SSR stands for Super Sport Roadster, and the name tells you exactly what Chevrolet was going for: the utility of a truck body combined with the character of an open-air cruiser. The SSR debuted as a concept at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show and went into production for the 2003 model year at GM's Lansing Craft Centre in Michigan, a facility that also built the Corvette. That's not a coincidence. The SSR shared significant architecture with the GMT360 truck platform but was engineered with an independent rear suspension, a limited-slip differential, and a sports-tuned chassis — components you wouldn't find anywhere near a Silverado. Production ran only through 2006, with total numbers across all four model years coming in well under 25,000 units. The 2004 model year saw approximately 9,000 units produced, making it the highest-volume year of the SSR's short run, though that figure still reflects a vehicle that was never mass-market by design. For 2004, Chevrolet upgraded the SSR from the 300-horsepower 5.3L Vortec V8 — which is exactly what this car carries — and paired it with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The following year, GM would drop in a 6.0L LS2 V8 and offer a 6-speed manual, which tends to overshadow the 2004 in enthusiast conversation. But the 5.3L cars have a strong following of their own, and in a collector context, they represent the original vision of what the SSR was supposed to be: a stylish, V8-powered, open-air truck that drove like a performance car and looked like nothing else on the road. This particular 2004 Chevrolet SSR is finished in purple — a color that suits the SSR's retro-custom personality better than almost any conventional choice would. The black leather interior provides a clean, high-contrast cabin environment. The underside photos show a frame with honest road wear consistent with a car that has been driven rather than stored, with no signs of structural damage or prior collision repair.
