2004 Ford Shelby Cobra Replica

Vehicle Description 2004 Ford Shelby Cobra Replica THE CAR This is a Cobra replica, built from a Hunter kit and assembled in 2005. It is not a Shelby, it is not a Ford, and it does not have a model year. The Pennsylvania title lists the make as Special Construction with no year assigned. We're saying all of that in the first paragraph because it's what you need to know before anything else matters. What it is instead is a well-built big-block Cobra replica that came out of a serious overhaul last year, and we have the paperwork to prove it. The body is fiberglass in Gunmetal Gray with Charcoal racing stripes. Underneath is a Hunter chassis, which was one of the kits that would actually take a big block - a lot of them wouldn't. Hunter Kit Cars operated out of Ocala, Florida, run by Randy and Sue Hunter, and their deluxe kit shipped as a frame with suspension installed, a fiberglass body, windshield, wiring harness, dash, mirrors, and lights. They're a smaller name than Factory Five or Superformance, but they built a real car, and whoever assembled this one did not cut corners afterward. WHAT IT HAS A 429ci Ford big block with a D1VE block and Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, topped with a Weiand Stealth high-rise intake, a Demon 850 CFM carburetor, and MSD ignition. In May 2025, the engine came out and was disassembled for a machine shop overhaul as part of a $75,000 job completed by Decordre Automotive and Performance of Spring City, Pennsylvania. The camshaft, bearings, connecting rods, and pistons were all replaced, along with additional items itemized in the records. Those records come with the car. That's not a claim we're repeating from somebody else - the paperwork is here and you're welcome to read it before you buy. The same 2025 work included the clutch pilot bearing, axle seals, repacked rear wheel bearings, a rebuilt steering column, and the side pipes, which were fabricated and installed in May 2025. Behind the engine is a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual feeding a Ford 9-inch rear with a Detroit Locker and 4.11 gears. The triangulated four-link rear suspension was built and installed by Johnny Benson Sr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan - a name stock car people in the Midwest will recognize. We found that same attribution in an earlier listing of this car from years ago, which is about as much corroboration as you get on a replica. It runs QA1 adjustable coilovers at all four corners and four-wheel discs with Howe Racing calipers. Wheels are 15-inch Torq Thrusts on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Inside it's black, with low-back seats, carpeted floors, Tilton race pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel on a column rebuilt in 2025, and AutoMeter instruments. There's a digital fan control module under the dash. The glovebox door carries a Carroll Shelby signature. The odometer shows 2,200 miles and the title shows actual mileage. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW The title is Special Construction with no model year. If you're buying from out of state, check how your DMV handles that before you commit. Most people have no trouble, but it's not the same paperwork as a titled production car and you should go in knowing it. The Carroll Shelby signature on the glovebox is a nice detail and that's all it is. We cannot authenticate it, and it doesn't change what this car is. This is a replica. There are some dings in the side pipes. They were fabricated and installed new in May 2025 and they already have a few marks on them. Not structural, but they're there and we'd rather you hear it from us. With 4.11 gears, a Detroit Locker, and a big block on an 850 Demon, this is a loud, direct, physical car. The Detroit Locker in particular makes itself known in parking lots. That's the character of the thing, not a fault, but if you're expecting a quiet weekend cruiser this isn't one. THE BIGGER PICTURE Cobra replicas cover an enormous range. At one end are turnkey cars from Superformance and Backdraft. At the other are half-finished projects that have been sitting in a garage for fifteen years with mismatched parts and no records. This one sits toward the good end, and the reason is the parts list and the paperwork. QA1 coilovers, Howe brakes, a Tremec TKO 600, a Detroit Locker 9-inch, a Benson-built four-link, and a documented $75,000 engine overhaul finished last year by a named shop you can call. That combination is what separates a replica worth buying from one that becomes somebody's project. The honest version of the pitch: nobody is going to mistake this for a real 427 Cobra, and real ones trade for money most people will never have. What you get here is the shape, the sound, and the experience, in a car somebody spent serious money making right. HOW TO BUY IT The car is at our shop in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. We're happy to shoot a walk-around video and send additional photos, including underbody shots. Third-party inspections are welcome. We charge no documentation fees. We can help coordinate out-of-state transport, but the carrier choice is yours.
