2008 Tesla Roadster

This 2008 Tesla Roadster is an early-production electric sports car built on a Lotus Elise–derived aluminum chassis and represents the first highway-legal production vehicle to utilize lithium-ion battery cells. Power is provided by a rear-mounted electric motor rated at approximately 248 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a single-speed fixed gear transmission. Energy is supplied by a 53 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, and regenerative braking is integrated to supplement the four-wheel disc brake system. The car is equipped with independent front and rear suspension. The body is constructed of carbon fiber panels mounted over the Elise-based structure, contributing to reduced overall weight. Exterior design elements differ from the Elise with model-specific wheels and revised headlamp and taillamp assemblies. The interior features two tan leather seats and retains a layout largely consistent with the Lotus Elise architecture. Instrumentation includes a speedometer scaled to 150 mph, a motor speed indicator calibrated to 13,000 rpm, and integrated transmission status displays. Interior equipment includes a JVC head unit with HDD navigation, climate control, and heated seat controls.
