Description
The Overview DOESN’T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS Making its public debut at Geneva in March 2015 as the successor to the 458 Italia, the 488 GTB arrived with something no Ferrari supercar had since the F40: twin turbochargers. In place of the 458’s high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.5-liter sat a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 of 660 horsepower and 560 lb-ft, its 488 cubic centimeters per cylinder supplying the name in the manner of the 250 and the 275. A jury of motoring journalists named it International Engine of the Year outright in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, the first engine ever to hold the title four years running. The Spider followed at Frankfurt that September. Its folding metal hardtop stows behind the cabin in fourteen seconds, even on the move, and Top Gear‘s Jason Barlow, driving it the following month, concluded that “forced induction doesn’t get much better than this, and most Ferraris are at their sensory best roof off.” 488 SPIDER #236496 The example presented here, chassis 236496, was completed at Maranello in April 2018 and delivered new that summer through Ferrari Beverly Hills. It is finished in stunning and sophisticated Rosso Mugello, which is deeper and more elegant than the traditional Rosso Corsa and is named for the Tuscan racing circuit Ferrari has owned since 1988. The car carries an exceptional grouping of options: the suspension lifter, which raises the nose for steep driveways and ramps, is the one experienced owners of low Ferraris look for first, and it is joined by the sport exhaust. Outside, the Scuderia Ferrari shields sit on the front fenders, carbon-fiber splitters divide the side intakes, and 20-inch forged wheels in a dark finish frame yellow calipers over carbon-ceramic discs. The yellow does not stop at the calipers. This car carries it through the cabin in Giallo stitching across the dash, door panels and seats, in yellow seat belts, in the Cavallino stitched on each headrest, and in the yellow face of the rev counter. With the roof folded away, the red, black and yellow can be read from across a parking lot. Full electric seats, the Adaptive Frontlight System, a parking camera and front and rear sensors are also fitted, and the red Ferrari car cover and kit bag remain in the front compartment beneath the personalization plate. The car spent its early life in California before coming east to Massachusetts in 2025, and it has a clean and trouble-free history. The odometer presently displays 3,971 miles. For the enthusiast who wants the last mid-engined V8 Ferrari generation before the hybrids, with the roof off, this is an exceptionally well-specified 488 Spider.
