When Chevrolet introduced the Corvette back in January 1953 at the New York City Waldorf-Astoria at General Motors' Motorama Display, few would be able to predict how much of a Grand Slam the GM marque hit. While the first couple years of Corvettes were essentially boulevard cruisers, they started getting their performance-oriented reputation in 1955 with the introduction of the V8. Throughout the history of the Corvette, Chevrolet released new body styles, informally referred to as ""C1,"" C2,"" ""C3,"" etc. When 1978 rolled around, Chevrolet marked the Corvette's 25th anniversary with a Silver Anniversary Edition package. In the years that followed, Chevrolet continued to market Anniversary Editions for the 35th, 40th, 50th and 60th Anniversaries of the iconic 2 seater. While rumblings of a mid-engine Corvette existed since as early as 1959 under famed Corvette designer Zora Arkus-Duntov, it wasn't until 2020 that the mid-engine Corvettes finally made their long awaited debut, colloquially known as the C8 Corvette.
