This 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible was purchased new by an Army Lieutenant on August 25, 1967 from Crater Motor Company in Petersburg, Virginia and reportedly resided with the second owner for 45 years prior to the seller’s purchase in 2014. The car is finished in Castilian Yellow over a black interior, and power is from a 1,500cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ wheels, chrome bumpers with overriders, a Nardi steering wheel and shift knob, and a Sapphire AM/FM radio. Work carried out in June 2021 consisted of replacing the door hinges, seals, and striker plates, along with performing a valve adjustment and an oil change.
The car was refinished in its factory shade of Castilian Yellow (Castillagelb L10K) under previous ownership in 1996. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, side moldings, a single mirror mounted on the driver’s door, and dual exhaust outlets.
Steel 15” wheels wear chrome VW hubcaps along with 165-series Sport IV HKP 880 tires. Under the seller’s ownership, the suspension was fitted with new shocks and rear torsion bar bushings, and the braking system was overhauled with new rotors, drums, pads, shoes, hoses, lines, front calipers, rear wheel cylinders, and brake cables.
The low-back bucket seats and folding rear bench seat are upholstered in black vinyl and joined by a matching dash pad and carpets. Equipment includes a woodgrain dashboard, a heater, crank windows, a Nardi shift knob, a locking glove box, floor mats, and a Sapphire IV AM/FM radio. The door hinges, seals, and striker plates were replaced in June 2021. The clock is inoperable.
The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation including a 90-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles.
The Karmann Ghia’s air-cooled flat-four was increased in displacement to 1,500cc for 1967 and was factory rated at 53 horsepower. The distributor cap and rotor, condenser, points, spark plugs, and oil cooler seals were replaced by the seller, and work carried out in June 2021 consisted of performing a valve adjustment and an oil change.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
The sales invoice from Crater Motor Volkswagen in Petersburg, Virginia, lists factory colors, optional equipment, and a total price of $2,713. Owner’s manuals, service records, and removed factory parts are included in the sale.
