This 1969 AMC AMX 390 is finished in green over tan vinyl and is powered by a 390ci V8 paired with a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes power steering, an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Flowmaster mufflers, and a Hurst shifter. The seller states that the engine was out of the car when it was acquired from long-term storage in 2016 and that subsequent service included reinstalling the engine, reupholstering the interior, and overhauling the braking system.
The car is said to have been refinished in the factory Hunter Green in 1984 and features black over-the-top stripes, chrome bumpers and rocker panel trim, 390 badging, and a replacement grille. The bumpers and taillight housings were reportedly recently re-chromed.
Chrome 14″ wheels are wrapped in a mixed set of Falken and Hankook tires. The car is equipped with optional power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes, and the seller states that the braking system was refurbished in 2017 with a replacement master cylinder, brake booster, front calipers and pads, rear shoes, and stainless steel lines. Rust is visible on the front wheels and the rear wheels are said to be replacements.
The interior is upholstered in tan vinyl and a refresh during current ownership included replacing the seat covers and carpets. Woodgrain trim accents the door panels and center stack, and features include a factory AM/FM radio, and a Hurst gear stick. The air conditioning is disconnected and the headliner is sagging and has a tear in the right front corner.
The three-spoke, tilt-adjustable steering wheel frames an analog clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and a tachometer with inset gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. A voltmeter and oil pressure gauge are mounted in the center stack. The speedometer gear and cable were replaced in 2017 and the fuel gauge does not work. The five-digit odometer shows 89k miles.
The 390ci V8 was reportedly rebuilt and modified during previous ownership with the following:
The engine was out of the car at the time of the seller’s acquisition and was installed in 2017 along with an Edelbrock Performer 750 CFM four-barrel carburetor and Flowmaster exhaust system.
The Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission was also installed in 2017 along with a QuickTime bellhousing and upgraded clutch assembly.
A window sticker, an owner’s manual, and the seller’s parts receipts are included in the sale.
