This 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible underwent a two-year refurbishment that is said to have been completed in Canada in 2004 before it was acquired by the seller in April 2010. The car is finished in Burnt Orange over black vinyl and is powered by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome bumpers, VDO instrumentation, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Service since February 2021 reportedly consisted of rebuilding the carburetor and replacing the spark plugs, fuel filter, and engine oil.
Styled by Carrozzeria Ghia, the bodywork was hand-built by German coachbuilding house Karmann. The car was repainted Burnt Orange during the refurbishment and features a black convertible top, matching top boot, Karmann Ghia badging, dual side mirrors, and chrome bumpers and lower body trim.
Steel 15″ wheels wear chrome VW hubcaps and are wrapped in steel-belted radial tires. A matching spare mounted with an older whitewall tire is stowed in the front trunk.
The high-back bucket seats and rear bench seat are upholstered in black vinyl and are joined by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Features include door pockets and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph VDO speedometer and an analog clock with an inset fuel gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles.
The replacement 1.6-liter flat-four breathes through a single carburetor and is equipped with a dual-exit exhaust system. The spark plugs, fuel filter, and engine oil were reportedly changed in February 2021, and the carburetor was rebuilt in May 2021 with a replacement float kit.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
A Volkswagen service manual and service records are included in the sale.
