This 1968 AMC AMX was sold new by Burton-Haaland AMC in Fontana, California, and remained in the state with the original owner until it was acquired by the seller and relocated to North Carolina in November 2020. The car is finished in blue with white stripes over a black vinyl interior and powered by a 390ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a Twin-Grip limited-slip differential, power-assisted front disc brakes, 14″ Magnum 500 wheels, heavy-duty suspension, dual side-exit exhaust pipes, an Edelbrock carburetor, air conditioning, and power steering. The clutch was reportedly replaced in June 2021.
The car is said to have been repainted in 2008 and is finished in blue with white over-the-top stripes. Additional exterior details include dual side-exit exhaust pipes, chrome bumpers, AMX C-pillar badging, and tri-color 390 rear quarter badges.
The 14″ Magnum 500 wheels are wrapped in Firestone Super-Sports redline tires. The car is equipped with power steering, while the Go Pack added a heavy-duty suspension with thicker sway bars and power-assisted front disc brakes. The shocks and brakes were reportedly replaced during current ownership.
The cabin features black vinyl bucket seats with dimpled inserts along with matching carpets and woodgrain trim on the door panels. Amenities include AMX-embroidered floor mats, Weather Eye climate control with air conditioning, an AM radio, and an 8-track tape player. The air-conditioning system was reportedly serviced while with the seller.
The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level and temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 81k miles.
The 390ci V8 was factory rated at 315 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly fitted with new gaskets in 2008 and features a 600 CFM Edelbrock carburetor. The removed factory carburetor is included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a Twin-Grip limited-slip differential. The clutch was reportedly replaced in June 2021.
