This 1972 Volkswagen Beetle is finished in blue over matching vinyl and powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. The car was sold new by Van Wyk’s Volkswagen of Santa Barbara, California, and was acquired by the seller in 2007, reportedly from its second owner. A subsequent cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment is said to have included an exterior repaint, an overhaul of the engine, servicing of the suspension and brakes, and replacement of the carpets, clutch, and exhaust system. Equipment includes chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels, Coco floor mats, a Hurst short-throw shifter, and three-point front seatbelts. A valve adjustment and oil change were reportedly performed in preparation for the sale.
The car was reportedly repainted in its present shade of blue under current ownership, at which time the running boards, bumpers, and weatherstripping are said to have been replaced.
Replacement chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels that are said to be 1″ wider than stock wear VW-branded hubcaps and 195/65 Riken Raptor tires showing 2010 date codes. The shocks have reportedly been replaced since 2014 along with the wheel cylinders and the brake drums, shoes, and master cylinder.
The interior features seats trimmed in dark blue vinyl, matching door panels, and replacement charcoal carpets with blue edges. Sound deadening material has reportedly been used to line the floors, and additional appointments include Coco floor mats, a Hurst short-throw shifter, and aftermarket three-point front seatbelts.
A four-spoke steering wheel with a laced cover frames a 90-mph VDO speedometer with an integrated fuel level gauge. The five-digit odometer indicates 78k miles.
The dual-port 1.6L flat-four has reportedly been overhauled with replacement cylinders, pistons, and cylinder heads. The carburetor, fuel pump, and hoses are also said to have been replaced, and a ceramic-coated performance exhaust system was also installed. A valve adjustment and oil change were reportedly performed in July 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle that is said to have been fitted with a replacement clutch.
