This 1978 Datsun 280Z is finished in Light Brown Metallic over brown two-tone vinyl and cloth upholstery, and is powered by a 2.8-liter L28 inline-six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The car was reportedly purchased new from Pacific Datsun of San Diego, California, and remained in Southern California through the seller’s purchase in July 2021. Features include a gold and brown decal kit, chrome bumpers, American Racing 14″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, fuel injection, rear window louvers, air conditioning, and an Alpine cassette stereo. After damage was sustained on the left side, the previous owner reportedly stored the car for approximately six years, and recent service included a replacement battery, ignition and fuel system components, and tires.
The body is finished in Light Brown Metallic and features a tri-color decal kit, chrome bumpers, polished trim, hood vents, and rear window louvers. The left-side door and fender were damaged in an accident under previous ownership, and a spare driver’s door is included in the sale.
Chrome-plated 14″ American Racing wire wheels wear 195/70 Advanta ER-700 tires that were reportedly mounted in preparation for the sale. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drums.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in brown vinyl with light brown cloth inserts along with matching door panels and carpets as well as a contrasting black dashboard and center console. Equipment includes air conditioning, a rear window defroster, an aftermarket Alpine cassette stereo, and Audiovox speakers.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer, and an analog clock is mounted in the center of the dash alongside auxiliary gauges showing coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles.
The 2.8-liter L28 inline-six features Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 170 horsepower when new. Service in preparation for the sale is said to have included replacement of the ignition wires, fuel injector connectors, and battery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller believes that undercoating was applied to the underside of the body by the original seller.
Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale along with past service records, a spare tire inflator, a tire-change tool kit, and a spare driver-side door.
