This 1959 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was built on December 19, 1958 and delivered new to Vancouver, Canada. The seller acquired the car as a non-running project in 2012, and subsequent refurbishment included bodywork and a repaint, as well as a reupholstered interior, a rebuild of the 1.2-liter flat-four, a replacement four-speed manual transaxle, and overhauls of the brakes and suspension. The car is finished in Cognac with a Beige Grey roof over a gray and brown interior, and equipment includes an AM radio with an FM receiver and auxiliary input, painted steel wheels, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The car was finished from the factory in Cognac with a Beige Grey roof and was repainted during current ownership following the completion of body work, which included fabricating replacement fresh air ducts, repairs of the front fenders and rear end, and replacing the floors, rocker panels, and other areas of sheet metal. Features include replacement chrome bumpers with overriders, Karmann fender badges, and dual “pea-shooter” exhaust outlets.
Painted 15″ steel wheels wear factory hubcaps and polished trim rings and are wrapped in 165/80 Invovic EL318 tires. The brake hydraulic cylinders, lines, hoses, and drums were replaced along with the suspension bushings, tie rod ends, kingpins, and shocks per the seller. The steering box is said to be older and in need of replacement.
The interior was refreshed with replacement door panels, carpets, and visors, and the seating surfaces were reupholstered in grey vinyl with white piping and brown cloth inserts. Amenities include a heater, an AM radio with an FM receiver and auxiliary input connector, lap belts for the front occupants, and a fold-down rear bench.
The refinished two-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg crest center cap and frames a 90-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer indicates 87k miles.
The 1.2-liter flat-four was rebuilt during the refurbishment and the front wiring harness is also said to have been overhauled at that time.
The four-speed manual transaxle was reportedly sourced from a later model and rebuilt during current ownership.
