This 1971 Datsun 240Z is a Series I example that was built in August 1970 and acquired as a rolling project approximately five years ago by the seller and has since been refurbished and modified with a 6.0-liter GM LS2 V8, a Borg Warner T-56 six-speed manual transmission, and an R200 rear differential. The car is finished in silver and has been fitted with a Datsun Garage Type 2 body kit, and additional features include reupholstered black vinyl seats, a Kenwood CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, a Hoke Performance front crossmember and driveshaft, Vintage Air A/C system, BC Racing adjustable coilovers, front and rear sway bars, aftermarket 16″ wheels, and power-assisted steering and four-wheel disc brakes.
Rust repair was carried out in the hatch and floors prior to a repaint in the factory shade of Silver Metallic (901) during the refurbishment. A Datsun Garage Type 2 fiberglass rear spoiler, front and rear bumpers, and side skirts have been added, along with LED taillights, H4 headlights, a Flowmaster exhaust tip, and a replacement windshield. A blue California license plate is mounted out back.
Panasport-style 16” aftermarket wheels feature Z-branded center caps and are mounted with 225/50 Falken Azenis tires that show 2017 date codes. Braking is through power-assisted Silvermine Motors four-wheel discs featuring custom lines, Ford calipers, and ventilated rotors. The suspension was refreshed during the build, and modifications include the following:
BC Racing adjustable coilovers
Front and rear sway bars
Front and rear strut tower bars
Hoke Performance front crossmember
The cabin was lined with Rattle Trap sound deadening material and the bucket seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl with metal ventilation grommets. Amenities include electric power steering, a Vintage Air A/C system, a quartz analog clock, fire extinguisher, and a remote-controlled Kenwood CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity linked with speakers in the kick panels.
A leather-wrapped three-spoke NR-G steering wheel is mounted to a Silvermine Motors steering column and sits ahead of a GPS-based Speedhut 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges in the center stack monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The digital odometer displays 150 miles since completion of the build.
The engine bay was repainted to match the body prior to the installation of a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 reportedly sourced from a 2006 Pontiac GTO. The engine was installed using a Hoke Performance mounting kit and features a Champion three-core aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, a custom short-ram intake, a GM ECU, PSI wiring harness, and silver-painted spark plug covers. Additional equipment includes the following:
Edelbrock adjustable fuel pump
Sanderson headers
Corvette oil pan
Odyssey Extreme battery
Gibson muffler
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg Warner T-56 six-speed manual transmission, a Hoke Performance driveshaft, and a Nissan R200 differential with Wolf Creek Racing CV axles.
