This 1972 Datsun 240Z was first sold in Tennessee and was acquired by the seller in 1973, and it subsequently spent time in Arizona and Colorado. This 1972 Datsun 240Z was first sold in Tennessee and was acquired by the seller in 1973, and it subsequently spent time in Arizona and Colorado. The car was reportedly owned and modified when new by Charles A. “Buz” Standefer, with additions including a rear spoiler, striping, rear window louvers, headlight covers with white-painted buckets, an eight-track player, 14″ Ansen alloy wheels, and exhaust headers. The car is finished in orange over black vinyl upholstery and powered by a 2.4-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes Boge Mulholland shock absorbers and stabilizer bars.
The exterior is finished in orange (918) and features a white rear spoiler, rear window louvers, headlight buckets, and lower body decals. Additional equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, headlight covers, and dual exhaust outlets. Imperfections in the body work are reported by the seller, including stone chips on the front end, dings in the front bumper, and a dent located on the left-rear quarter panel.
Ansen 14″ mesh alloy wheels are mounted with 195/70 Michelin Defender tires, which were installed in October 2018. A steel spare wheel fitted with an older Bridgestone spare is stored in the rear compartment. Upgraded front and rear stabilizer bars have been fitted, in addition to Boge Mulholland shock absorbers. October 2020 services included adjustment of the emergency brake, repacking the front wheel bearings, and replacement of the ball joints, steering rack boots, and tie rods. The removed factory front stabilizer bar is included in the sale.
The interior features bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with diamond-pattern trim panels and black carpeting, the latter of which is protected by Z-branded rubber floor mats. Additional equipment includes a heater, manual-wind up windows, an AM/FM radio, and an eight-track tape player located in the locking glove compartment.
The wood-trimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, amperage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure housed above the center stack. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows under 65k miles.
The 2.4-liter L24 inline-six features dual SU carburetors and an orange-finished air filter housing, and it was factory rated at 151 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. October 2020 services consisted of refurbishment to the carburetors and replacement of the spark plugs, while the distributor components were replaced in February 2021 and the radiator was refurbished in March 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and the clutch master cylinder was replaced in April 2021.
