This 1973 Datsun 240Z was acquired by the seller as a partially-assembled project in 2001, reportedly following over 25 years in storage. A cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment was carried out between 2007 and 2011, during which the 2.4-liter straight-six was rebuilt and fitted with a resurfaced cylinder head, a polished crankshaft, and ZTherapy SU carburetors. A repaint was also performed, and additional work included a replacement clutch and flywheel along with refreshment of the suspension, steering, and heating systems. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, an aftermarket sway bar, BRE lowering springs, and Minilite-style wheels.
The body was refinished in its factory shade of orange in 2007 by Auto Works of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania following dent repairs. Additional work included cadmium-plated hardware, re-chromed brightwork, and replacement chrome bumpers and overriders.
Minilite-style wheels are mounted with Michelin Weatherwise II tires. The suspension and steering system have been disassembled and refurbished, and additional work included resurfaced brake rotors and replacement struts, suspension mounts, and bushings. A thicker sway bar and BRE lowering springs were installed during prior ownership. The sale will include the removed factory steel wheels, which feature covers and are mounted with Bridgestone tires.
The seats are trimmed in black vinyl, and matching upholstery extends to the carpeting and door panels. Amenities include a wood shift knob, a lockable glove box, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The dash, glove box liner, window lifters, and heater system were removed and cleaned during the refurbishment. The heater core was replaced in 2011. The seller states that the analog clock is not functional and a tear is evident on the passenger-side carpeting.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows just over 10k miles, approximately 800 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.4-liter L24 inline-six was rebuilt in 2007 by Carriage Craft in Reading, Pennsylvania. The cylinder head and block were resurfaced, the crankshaft polished, and the oil pump and wiring harness were refurbished. Dual SU carburetors that were remanufactured by ZTherapy have been installed, and the removed flat-top carburetors are included in the sale.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A replacement clutch, flywheel, and differential mounts were installed in 2007.
