This 1982 Volvo 245GL wagon was purchased new by the seller from Dyer & Dyer Volvo of Atlanta, Georgia and was originally equipped with a six-cylinder diesel engine. Around 2012 the seller installed a fuel-injected Ford 302ci V8 paired with a Ford four-speed automatic transmission during a refurbishment that involved a glass-out and trim-off repaint in silver, reconditioning the black leather upholstery, and replacing the braking components. Equipment includes black 15″ alloy wheels, bright-finished bumpers, dark window trim and side moldings, air conditioning, power windows, and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth stereo.
The car was originally finished in Mystic Silver Metallic (130) and underwent a glass-out/trim-off repaint around 2012 followed by an application of clearcoat. Dark and bright trim adorns the exterior, and Volvo mud flaps are positioned behind each wheel.
Black cross-lace 15″ wheels with polished lips are mounted with 205/60 Goodyear Assurance Comfortred tires; a full-size spare is included. Brake components including the master cylinder, rotors, calipers, rubber lines, and pads—in addition to the suspension bushings, ball joints, strut bearings, and shocks—have been replaced since the refurbishment.
The interior is upholstered in black button-tufted leather with matching door panels and carpeting. The leather has been reconditioned, the front passenger seat bottom was re-covered with leather dyed to match the interior, and worn seat springs were restored. The cracked dash has been covered with a Coverlay product, and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth head unit is mounted ahead of the shifter. Equipment includes power windows, power door locks, and rubber floor mats. The air-conditioning system reportedly was converted to R134 refrigerant during the engine swap and utilizes a Ford compressor as well as a replacement expansion valve, condenser, and hoses.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 202k miles.
Originally equipped with a diesel 2.4-liter inline-six, the car underwent an engine swap performed by the seller in approximately 2012. The replacement 4,942cc V8 and transmission were sourced from a two-wheel-drive 2000 Mercury Mountaineer said to have accumulated 11k miles before being involved in a rollover accident; the engine, transmission, and bolt-on accessories were acquired from Tallant Brothers Auto Parts of Cumming, Georgia, as noted on an August 2009 receipt. The drivetrain is managed by a Ford engine-control module, and the car also has been fitted with variable-speed electric cooling fans, and the OBD-II diagnostic system has been implemented.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Ford 4R70W four-speed automatic transmission. Mufflers were installed with a 2½” exhaust system that includes front and rear oxygen sensors, but the car is not equipped with catalytic converters. The driver-side floor pan has been repaired with formed metal panels and secured in place with urethane auto-panel adhesive.
The window sticker pictured above indicates a retail price of $15,608.80 and fitment of the car’s original diesel engine and three-speed automatic transmission.
