1962 Mercury Comet

1962 Mercury Comet Station Wagon Restored - Inline 6 Automatic A charming and increasingly uncommon piece of early 1960s American motoring, this 1962 Mercury Comet 4-door station wagon offers a unique blend of practicality, vintage style, and recent restoration work that makes it stand out wherever it goes. Tastefully restored between 2020 and 2022, this wagon presents beautifully while maintaining the character that makes these early Comets so appealing. Powered by the U-code 170 cubic inch inline 6-cylinder engine—the largest engine available for the Comet in 1962—this example delivers smooth, reliable performance paired with an automatic transmission. The drivetrain has been rebuilt during the restoration process, providing confidence behind the wheel and making this a classic that can be enjoyed regularly. The 12-volt system and rear-wheel-drive layout further contribute to its straightforward and dependable driving experience. Finished in Sultana White, the exterior has a clean, classic presence that perfectly suits the wagon body style. The brightwork and overall presentation reflect the significant investment made during restoration, with over $40,000 reportedly spent by the previous owner. New glass has been installed throughout, enhancing both appearance and visibility. Inside, the cabin has been completely refreshed with new two-tone red and white upholstery that captures the spirit of the early 1960s while offering a crisp, eye-catching contrast against the exterior. A new headliner completes the interior restoration, and a retro-style radio provides a period-correct look with added usability. The overall interior presentation is both inviting and well executed. Riding on four brand new wide white wall tires, this Comet has the proper stance and vintage appeal that makes it equally suited for shows, weekend cruising, or even promotional use for a business. The wagon body style adds versatility and charm, making it a standout among more commonly seen coupes and sedans from the era. This example benefits from extensive restoration work while still retaining the personality of a classic driver. As with any vintage vehicle, minor flaws may be present and are outlined in the photos, but overall it shows extremely well and is ready to be enjoyed. For anyone looking for a distinctive classic with usability, style, and a story, this 1962 Mercury Comet station wagon checks all the boxes. It's a rare opportunity to own a thoughtfully restored wagon that combines nostalgia with real-world drivability, and it truly is a must see in person.
