Description
As Porsche’s first production automobile, the 356 established the lightweight, rear-engine formula and sporting character that would define the marque for decades to come. For 1962, the 356B adopted the revised T6 body configuration, distinguished by a larger windshield and rear window, a more squared front hood, an external fuel filler, and twin engine-lid grilles. This 1962 Porsche 356B 1600S Coupe features Karmann-built T6 bodywork and was originally finished in Bali Blue before undergoing a comprehensive restoration and refinishing in Guards Red over a beige interior. Its 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four was reportedly rebuilt to later 356 SC specifications by Markham Motors of Burbank, California, in 2007 and has since been refreshed by Andre’s Foreign Car Service in San Francisco. Accompanied by extensive service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and documentation pertaining to its restoration, this beautifully presented 356B 1600 S is now being offered for auction in San Francisco, California.
Originally finished in Bali Blue, the Karmann-built T6 body was refinished in Guards Red during an extensive restoration carried out under previous ownership. The seller describes the paintwork as remaining in excellent overall condition, complemented by restored chrome brightwork, rubber seals, lenses, and exterior trim. Original-style 15” steel wheels are fitted with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps, and tires said to be less than five years old and in excellent condition. Exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders, rear bumperettes with integrated exhaust outlets, a driver’s side mirror, and the twin-grille engine decklid characteristic of the T6 body design.
