Description
There are replicas, and then there are cars that develop a history of their own. This Factory Five Daytona Coupe is one of the latter. Built in Arizona in 2010, this Daytona—VIN AZ321659—began as a personal dream project for its original builder who built the car with his brothers. The result was a serious performance car combining the unmistakable shape of the legendary Shelby Daytona Coupe with modern American Chevy V8 power. The car was first registered in Arizona in August 2010. According to the original builder’s family, the completed Daytona later appeared at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in 2013, where they report that it sold for approximately $58,300 and was acquired by actor and racing enthusiast Frankie Muniz. The car later appeared through the Volo Museum in Illinois before continuing into private collector ownership. That history makes this particular Daytona especially interesting. It is not simply an anonymous replica. Its VIN provides a connection to its original 2010 construction, and the car has appeared in the collector-car marketplace at several points throughout its history. Today, the car remains true to the philosophy behind its original construction: lightweight, powerful, purposeful and unmistakably American.
