1965 Porsche 356 Base

Porsche Palm Springs is proud to present this exceptional 1965 Porsche 356C/1600 SC Cabriolet, VIN 162048 - a matching-numbers, factory-documented example presented in Light Ivory (Paint Code 6404) over Black leather with a Black soft top. Produced in April 1965 and delivered new to the United States, this is a rare final-year 356 in its most desirable configuration: the top-tier SC engine, open Cabriolet coachwork by Reutter, and full factory authentication via the Porsche Classic Technical Certificate program. The 1965 model year marks the definitive end of an era for Porsche - the final year of 356 production, the final year of the Reutter-bodied Cabriolet, and the closing chapter of the model that launched the marque. Approximately 1,101 356C/SC Cabriolets were built for the entire 1964 - 1965 run, making surviving examples in this configuration genuinely uncommon in the collector market. This car represents the ultimate expression of the model line: the highest-output pushrod flat-four Porsche produced, the last of the open Reutter bodies, and the direct ancestor of every 911 Cabriolet that has followed. Authentication is unambiguous. Our Porsche Classic Technical Certificate, issued 11 August 2026 by our in-house Porsche Classic workshop, confirms the engine (Type 616/16, serial 821783) and transmission (Type 741/2, serial 86312) as original to the chassis per Porsche factory records, verified by visual inspection of all markings present. Exterior: Finished in Light Ivory (Paint Code 6404) over a Black soft top, the car presents in excellent overall condition. Our Porsche Classic technical inspection graded the paintwork as excellent and the body as excellent with no visible damage. All exterior functional systems passed inspection. The car sits on period-style 15-inch wheels wrapped in Vredestein 185/15 tires with strong tread depth throughout. Interior: The cabin is trimmed in Black Leather (Code B) the correct factory specification for this chassis. Our Porsche Classic inspection graded the interior as excellent, consistent with the year of construction, with all major functional systems passing inspection. Period-correct switchgear and gauges remain throughout. Engine and Performance: At the heart of this 356C sits its matching-numbers 1,582cc Type 616/16 air-cooled flat-four (engine 821783) the top-tier SC specification producing 95 horsepower, the most powerful pushrod engine ever fitted to a series-production 356. It is paired with the matching-numbers Type 741/2 four-speed manual transmission (serial 86312). Our Porsche Classic technical check confirmed the engine as functionally sound with no acute service needs. All fluids passed inspection, and the ignition system, alternator, belts, and electrical connections cleared without concern. Front and rear brake pads and rotors showed only minimal wear.
