Description
In the 2000 film "Gone in 60 Seconds," Randall “Memphis” Raines calls Eleanor his “unicorn” because she’s the one car that has always escaped him. “Eleanor” is the nickname for a customized 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, the film’s star car and the last one Memphis (Nicolas Cage) must steal.
This licensed Eleanor recreation by Classic Recreations rides on a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback shell, and it was commissioned by the car's current owner in 2011. The builder says each car takes over 2,500 hours to complete, blending the original’s spirit with modern performance. It wears an Eleanor body kit in movie-correct Pepper Gray Metallic with black Rally stripes. 17-inch Halibrand-style wheels, center fog lights, and side-exit exhausts finish the look.
Power comes from a supercharged, fuel-injected 427-cubic-inch Windsor-based V8, a TREMEC T56 Magnum six-speed manual, and a FAB9 nine-inch rear axle with a limited-slip differential. The chassis features adjustable coilovers, tubular front control arms, rear four-link suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and four-wheel disc brakes.
Inside are SCAT Rally 1000 seats, a roll bar, Old Air climate control, power windows, Carroll Shelby gauges, a wood-rimmed wheel, and a Flaming River tilt column. The current owner commissioned this Eleanor recreation by Classic Recreations, which was completed in 2011.
