The Volkswagen Beetle is the car that put the world on wheels, which was its goal from its inception in 1938. Once full-scale mass production was reached in the late 1940s, consumers and enthusiasts around the world welcomed the Beetle with open arms. By the 1960s, the Beetle was passionately involved with motorists worldwide, and by the time the 1970s rolled around the Beetle was fused to global culture.
Particularly popular in the United States with hot rodders and economy enthusiasts alike, the Beetle also found a home in Mexico and South America. Production in Brazil in the 1950s and in Mexico in the early 1960s. Although German production and US sales ended in the late 1970s, the Beetle remained in production in Brazil until 1996 and Mexico until 2003. As a result, the Volkswagen Beetle still holds the title of the most mass-produced car of all time, totaling over 21 million units made--it blew Ford's Model T out of the water by more than 6 million units!
This 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle wears worn green paint with a newer gray tweed interior. Inside, it features bucket seats, an Alpine cassette radio, and classic ladybug floor mats. It is powered by an air-cooled and carbureted 1,600cc flat four-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. This VW rides on 15" Super Beetle steel wheels.
