Description
This 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo is one of 1,672 examples built during a two-year production period and was delivered new to Germany. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four was rebuilt in 2022 by Steve Dinan’s shop CarBahn Service in San Jose, California, and dyno-tuning was subsequently performed by Dinan himself. Additional work at that time involved rebuilding the mechanical fuel injection unit, installing a Becker radio, and replacing the clutch and flywheel. The car is finished in Chamonix over black leather upholstery, and equipment includes a dogleg five-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, a sunroof, a Turbo-specific body kit and graphics, 13″ Alpina wheels, and front disc brakes. This 2002 Turbo is now offered in New York by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner , with a BMW Classic certificate, a spare set of wheels, service records, and a clean Montana title. The 2002 Turbo debuted at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show as BMW’s first turbocharged production car. It was distinguished from the standard 2002 by a Turbo-specific body kit consisting of a front air dam, body-color fender flares, and a rear spoiler. The “turbo 2002” lettering at the front of the car was applied in reverse so that it would read correctly in the rear-view mirror of a vehicle ahead.
