Description
One of the definitive muscle cars of the era, the 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is powered by a 400ci V8 and was immortalized by the "Bandit" black-and-gold livery. This example wears a Bandit-style refurbishment, finished in black with gold accents over a black vinyl interior, and it retains its factory 400ci displacement and 4-speed manual configuration. This Trans Am was acquired by the current owner in 2025 and has received nearly $15,000 in recent work. Showing approximately 54k miles, it is now being offered for auction in Connecticut.
The car was repainted black with gold Bandit-style accents under prior ownership roughly five to seven years ago. Details include a Trans Am hood decal, a shaker hood, front fender air vents, a front spoiler, and dual side mirrors. It rides on 15" snowflake-style wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle GT2 tires measuring 235/70 up front and 255/70 at the rear. The seller describes the exterior as being in excellent condition and notes the door seals were replaced under current ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior was reupholstered in black vinyl, swapped in under prior ownership, and features front bucket seats, a full-length center console, an engine-turned dash fascia, a Hurst shifter, and a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel. A Custom Autosound stereo was installed by the seller. In November 2025, the instrument cluster was cleaned and fitted with a new circuit board, gauge bulbs, and a dedicated ground wire, and the driver-side door switch was replaced. The seller notes the clock, cigarette lighter, and reverse lights are inoperative, while the remaining gauges and accessories function. The Fisher body plate decodes as follows:
