1989 Porsche 964 C4 Coupe

The 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe represents a landmark moment in the model’s evolution as the first offering from the 964 generation. Introduced that year, the Carrera 4 marked a significant technological advancement with the debut of Porsche’s innovative all-wheel-drive system—adapted from the legendary 959 supercar—bringing enhanced traction and composure to the classic 911 driving experience.Finished in timeless Guards Red over a Black partial leather interior, this example was completed on April 20, 1989, during the model’s inaugural production year. With just over 80,000 original miles, it retains its factory-original, matching-numbers engine (62K01407) and presents as a well-kept and tastefully upgraded example of this historically significant model. The car has recently undergone a comprehensive mechanical refurbishment, completed in April 2025, with the aim of restoring performance and reliability while preserving its factory character. The engine was disassembled and align-bored by Ollie’s Engineering in Lake Havasu, Arizona, a respected name in Porsche machine work. Cylinder heads were resurfaced and fitted with new valve guides, while a lightweight single-mass flywheel and RS-style clutch assembly were installed for a more responsive and engaging power delivery.Additional recent mechanical work includes a remanufactured steering rack, new Bilstein PS110 suspension, fresh brake pads and rotors, all rebuilt CV axles, and new tie rods. Oil lines to and from the engine oil cooler were replaced, along with the slave cylinders for both the transfer case and center differential lock. Shock and strut mounts were renewed, and final ride height and alignment settings were completed in May 2025 to ensure proper handling dynamics. Tarrett Engineering valve covers—top and bottom—add a touch of performance and durability under the decklid.A set of RUF Speedline wheels paired with new Michelin tires provide both visual appeal and confident road manners, tying together the car’s blend of classic styling and performance refinement. As the model that bridged Porsche’s air-cooled legacy with modern engineering, the 1989 Carrera 4 holds a unique place in the 911 timeline. With its early production status, original drivetrain, and extensive recent servicing, this example offers a compelling opportunity to experience the first AWD 911 as it was intended—refined, capable, and unmistakably Porsche.‍
