Description
Thanks to a high-revving 7.0-liter mill called LS7, the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was a whole new animal. This V8 used trickle-down technology from Corvette’s racing program, including titanium connecting rods and a dry-sump oiling system. Feeding 505 horsepower to a six-speed manual, it made a whopping 100 horses more than the C5 Z06’s engine.
And the hardtop-only C6 Z06’s chassis and body were just as high-tech: sitting on a light, rigid aluminum and magnesium frame, the body was 3.3 inches wider in the rear to run 325mm tires, and it wore a magnesium hardtop and carbon fiber fenders and floorboards for stiffness and weight savings. The Corvette rode on a potent-yet-compliant suspension, with massive six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes using individual “padlets.”
This bona-fide supercar with a 22 cubic-foot trunk impressed Car and Driver’s editors, who revealed, “It ripped to 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds, hit 100 in 7.9, and 150 in 17.5. Spending double the Z06’s price does not guarantee you’ll have a car that can beat it.”
This 2008 example was originally sold at Uptown Chevrolet Cadillac in New York City in March 2008, before traveling to Illinois later that year. In 2009 it was purchased by the seller and exported to Ontario, Canada, where it has been kept for the last 17 years.
