Introduced for 2012, the Porsche Cayman R was the ultimate evolution of the first-generation 987 Cayman — and a worthy competitor to the 911.

Based on the Cayman S, the R extracted an additional 10 horsepower from its 3.4-liter flat-six for a total of 330 hp at a sonorous 7,400 rpm. Augmenting that power gain was a comprehensive weight-reduction program utilizing aluminum doors, lightweight seats, reduced sound insulation, pull-strap door releases, and the optional deletion of the radio and air conditioning trimmed approximately 120 pounds. This increased power and reduced weight served a singular purpose: to sharpen the driving experience.
